202033P - 1/4" diameter shank, Touch Trigger Probe TP-100 w/6' shielded cable, no connector. Made in USA.
This TP-100 contact probe is a 1/4 inch diameter shank, 5 way ( +X,-X,+Y,-Y,-Z) mechanical contact scanning device with a 2mm ( .0787 in) diameter ruby tip. It is used with CNC milling and CNC routing style machines to digitize surface and contour data. When used as a probe the shank is mounted in a spindle collet or chuck or other holder parallel to the spindle axis. Tip stylus extensions are available in 20, 30, 60 , and 90 mm lengths. 1mm, 3mm, and 4mm diameter, ruby tips styli are also available.
This probe will work with CNC controllers that interface to a probing input from a switched contact. This includes DeskCNC, Mach3, TurboCNC, EMC, linixCNC, Flashcut, cnc Shark, and many other PC based programs/controllers. For other CNC systems, please check with the producer to verify that the system can utilize a contact probe
When used with DeskCNC, a probed surface is filtered, smoothed, reverse compensated for the probe tip radius, and saved as an .STL CAD file. The 3D surface machining CAM in DeskCNC can make minor edits to the surface and will produce 3D surfacing toolpaths to duplicate the scanned part. DeskCNC has automated routines to measure and record tool lengths when the probe is used as a tool setter. The photos above show the 3D scanning of a plastic leopard into an .STL file and a wooden workpiece that was machined from the scan.
Below is another DeskCNC scanned item. In this case a 1 mm diameter, ruby probe tip was used to pick up as much detail as possible. The specifics of the scan are: .004 x .004 steps, approx 95,000 points scanned. The total time was about 3.5 hours. The velocity was kicked up to about 35 ipm on the flat areas. This is the original stl file, rendered in Vector Cad-Cam.
